Dax, Dax

Grade: B-

Hi there…I’d like to introduce you to the Trent Reznor of the 21st century. Or at least, that’s what was the first thing to come to my mind when I popped in Dax’s self-titled three-track EP and the industrial rock fusion called “Submission” came blaring through my stereo speakers. While I definitely dig the whole industrial-electronic-rock hybrid thing, I unfortunately keep automatically comparing him to NIN and ever time Dax does not come out on top. Thankfully though things did start to get better on the second track “Not Worth the Paper,” which was recently featured on a Westwood One/Sony Playstation compilation. This track had a little more of a creative edge that helped me to start distinguishing Reznor from Dax. All in all, I think Dax has potential but will have to do a bit more to disassociate his music from artists that came before him because I’m not going to be the only one making comparisons.
